The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
