Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.

He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
