Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official said the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
